The Friends of Witley School is a very active Parent Teacher Association and all parents are automatically members. FWS is all about supporting the school and is a great way of meeting other parents and their children.
FWS organise various events throughout the year including an annual Christmas fair, an annual Summer fair and barbeque, bedtime stories at our church, skate and scoot, mufti days, cake stalls and sponsored events for the children to name but a few.
These events bring the school community together and raise money for the school. The money is used to fund activities or buy equipment to benefit all pupils throughout their years at the school. Other events we organise are more ‘social’, bringing everyone together to form strong links between parents, teachers and the children.
The FWS meets on an ad-hoc basis to discuss and plan forthcoming events, exchange new ideas, and enjoy a glass of wine or cup of tea in the process.
Over the years, FWS have raised much needed funds that help purchase additional resources that add to the enjoyment and development of all children whilst at Witley – as well as providing a legacy for future generations. This has included outdoor classroom, cycle/scooter pods, playground equipment, boat and activity areas, astro turf football pitch, outdoor stage, Library computer, Christmas gifts, nativity costumes, Year 2 leaver’s trip to Legoland and much more.
Details of the funds raised and how they’ve been spent can be found below.
A fun way for our children to experience the ‘tree to bottle journey’ for themselves by pressing donated apples and taking home a bottle of freshly pressed juice to enjoy and share with family.
HUGE winter event for the children and their parents where friends and family are also welcome. Games, tombola and visit to Santa for children and fabulous Raffle, Bottle Tombola and adult stalls for the grown-ups. Food and drinks are provided by volunteer parents.
Parents buy high quality gift wrap and 22% of all revenues goes to the school. Look out for the information in your child’s book bag in autumn.
Children make a card in school and parents buy a pack of 12 or more and of course some revenue goes to the school. Look out for your child’s artwork in their book bag in autumn.
The children’s school disco takes place on a Saturday afternoon and the children can be dropped off and dance away for 2 hours and learn some new dance moves! As well as stock up on glow sticks etc they’re given snacks and squash.
The Autumn walk is a lovely chance to get together as a school. At the end of the day on a Friday, children along with their parents and siblings take a stroll up to the top of Mare Hill for a quick drink and a snack. When back down to the school playground there is food for sale which has been either a BBQ or take-away pizza!
Parents buy, at really low price, donated uniform on display either in playground or resources room. Event generally happens once/twice a term during Open House afternoons and Parents Evenings. Price list available in office anytime.
Once a term children are allowed to scoot or skate on the playground after school where a track is organised by the school. Younger siblings may also have a go on a separate track by the AstroTurf area to try their new skills. Older siblings are too big now (and too fast!) to be invited, sorry!
Snuggle up in PJ’s with a favourite teddy and listen to stories read by volunteer parents at All Saints Church. Cookies and milk at half time!
A local farm donates punnets of gorgeous summer fruit such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries which are then available after school for Parents to buy – very reasonable prices. Be prepared to leave the playground with an empty punnet!
Every Friday a volunteer parent bakes or buys a cake; raffle tickets are available to buy for 20p each. The winning ticket is drawn at assembly and one lucky pupil (or teacher!) takes home the delicious treat.
Every child takes part in creating their own painted masterpiece which is then professionally framed and exhibited in the resources room and available to purchase and take home to enjoy.
Summer event similar to the Christmas Fair with more outdoor activities.
Recycles your old and unwanted clothing and turns it into cash for the school. A great opportunity for a clear out!
Enjoyable, light-hearted general knowledge quiz evening, open to all Witley parents, teachers, friends and family. Supper included in the ticket, charity bar and prizes for the winning team!
Witley Infants Dads vs Hambledon Village Cricket team in July, with food and drinks provided by volunteer parents.
A fabulous end to the school year where Parents gather for a delicious dinner in a special setting.
